COMPLETE
& PARTIAL DENTURES
|
|
|
Without
the proper professional care, over time people's teeth tend to naturally
deteriorate. When a tooth has deteriorated beyond help, it will need to be
removed, and when multiple teeth are extracted, dentures may be the most
appropriate solution. Dentures can create a natural and healthy looking
set of teeth. A properly fitting set of dentures, especially when placed
over dental implants can greatly enhance your smile, your ability to chew
food completely, and your sense of self-esteem.
The Problem:
|
|
|
|
A
missing tooth or teeth
Potential bite and jaw joint problems from teeth shifting to fill the
space
The "sunken face" look associated with missing teeth
Desire to improve chewing ability
Desire to maintain a healthy, natural looking set of teeth
|
|
The
Solution:
|
|
|
Complete
dentures are used when there are no teeth remaining. A mold of the
gums is made and we start making a set of dentures. Then we send it to a
dental lab where temporary dentures are constructed. These dentures are
placed in the patient's mouth using a soft material that will give a
perfect impression of the tissues in action. These dentures are used until
the patient is comfortable with their looks and function. We will then
make a permanent set which will have the denture base colored to look like
your gums.
Partial dentures are prepared in much the same way as a complete
set, and are utilized when only a few teeth are missing. The remaining
teeth are prepared to allow the metal framework of the partial denture to
fit upon them. Then resin teeth and plastic gums are added. With dental
implants, removable dentures may be completely unnecessary.

Dental
Implants are a better alternative to dentures. However, in some cases,
depending on health concerns and finances, dentures are the only
alternative.
